Dear Parents and Guardians: The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to evaluate learning in a particular academic content. Beginning with the Class of 2023, successful completion of the Keystone Exams is a graduation requirement. Act 158 of 2018 shifted some of our reliance on the high stakes testing as a graduation requirement to provide alternative pathways for high school students to demonstrate post-secondary readiness. In the past, most of the focus was placed on the Keystone exams. The Keystone exams are the first and only one of a few ways in which students can graduate by showing proficiency. Act 158 provides additional pathways to help students meet graduation requirements. The Pathways to Graduation flowchart and graphic as well as an informational video explaining each pathway can be found at https://www.dboone.org/domain/72 The Spring 2024 Keystone exam testing window is May 13-24 for the following DBAHS students: All students currently enrolled in any of the following courses 302-Algebra I, 401-Biology, 403-Honors Biology, 105-English 10, or 113-Honors English 10 Students in grades 9-11 who have not previously completed a Keystone exam Students who have been identified to retake a Keystone exam for Act 158 pathway completion. Information regarding which Keystone exams a student may be taking will be communicated via teachers, counselors, and our Keystone Site Assessment Coordinator Mr. Berger. Communications will be sent via Infinite Campus and Blackboard. Any questions regarding previous test scores can be directed to your child’s school counselor. Questions regarding Keystone Exam logistics and scheduling can be communicated to Mr. Berger DBAHS Keystone Site Assessment Coordinator. Keystone Exam Testing Schedule To facilitate the administration of these, important end of course assessments, DBAHS will operate on a modified schedule, shown below on the following dates May 13,14,15,16,20 and 21 ONLY. Testing will occur each day from 7:35 am – 9:30 am, at 9:35 am DBAHS will follow our regular 2-hour delay schedule. Shown below. Transportation All students scheduled to take a Keystone exam will report to school at normal arrival time and move directly to their designated testing location. Students who do not have their own transportation for the modified later arrival time are expected to ride their bus or through another mode of transportation arrive at normal morning arrival time and report to the auditorium. From the auditorium students will be divided out by staff to rooms for supervised academic preparatory time. Students will be able to work on schoolwork, with assistance from the staff or complete their assigned Naviance career exploration tasks. Students not required to complete a Keystone exam and who have their own mode of transportation or walk to school may arrive at school for a 9:35 am start time on the designated dates above. Upon arrival at 9:35am students will report to their regularly scheduled first period class for attendance. Attendance on those days will be taken in the morning during both the testing session and first period. First period attendance will be recorded in Infinite Campus as done on our regular 2-hour delay school days. Exam Schedule May 13 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Algebra Module 1 May 14 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Algebra Module 2 May 15 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Literature Module 1 May 16 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Literature Module 2 May 20 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Biology Module 1 May 21 – 7:35 am – 9:30 am – Biology Module 2 May 17, 22, 23, 24 – Will be utilized for make ups ONLY. DBAHS will operate with our normal start time and daily bell schedule. Opting out If students opt out of the Keystone Exam they will need to complete a locally designed end of course assessment (final exam) in its place. Students are required to complete one - end of course assessment; if students complete the Keystone Exam, they will be exempt from the final exam. If students are opting out of a Keystone exam, they will still need to report at 7:35am on the exam day to complete their final exam.

Ethan Scott receives High School Leadership Award March 28, 2024 Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10 and Telemundo62, is proud to recognize Ethan Scott of Douglassville as a winner of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards. Over more than a decade, the university has recognized more than 1,300 students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who demonstrated leadership within their communities. The program recognized 137 students on Wednesday, March 20 from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to stand up for what they believe in, speak out on behalf of others and make an impact in their communities. Ethan Scott, from Daniel Boone Area High School, has made a difference by serving as an exceptional student leader, expanding opportunities for the Blazer Ambassadors group and fostering a unified and inclusive school environment. "For the 13th consecutive year, Widener University is delighted to honor outstanding student leaders from across our region with the High School Leadership Award," said Stacey Robertson, president of Widener University. "This year, we are excited to acknowledge this outstanding group of young people who have demonstrated a commitment to their communities through acts of leadership and caring. Widener is distinctive because of our inclusive culture where students belong and can thrive as their authentic selves. I salute these 137 award winners for demonstrating courage, tenacity and leadership while exhibiting the same drive reflected in Widener's principles. We congratulate them!" Winners were invited to the in-person program March 20 with their families and school administrators at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia's historic district. In addition to being recognized as young leaders in the region, if students enroll at Widener as undergraduates, they will take part in the university's prestigious Apogee Leadership Scholars program and receive a $20,000 scholarship over four years. Apogee Scholars also take part in four years of leadership programming and earn a Widener Leadership Certificate. "NBC10 and Telemundo62 take great pride in our ongoing partnership with Widener University as we join hands for another year to celebrate the accomplished recipients of this esteemed award," said Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10, Telemundo62 and NBC Sports Philadelphia. "These students are not just the future leaders; they are already making a difference today, as evidenced by their daily efforts to improve their schools and communities. We are proud of our continued involvement in this program and in honoring these exceptional young individuals for their remarkable achievements. We are eager to witness their future successes in college and beyond."
